I am a Stockholm-based journalist covering Swedish news and features in my role as Europe Editor for The Local, which in 2018 was named Popular Digital Publication of the Year by the Swedish Magazine Publishers Association and in 2019 is shortlisted for the Nya Journalistpriset (New Journalism Award).
My writing about European news, culture and travel has been published in the Guardian, the Daily Mirror, Culture Trip, NBC, the Manchester Evening News, Big Issue North, and several travel publications. Before relocating to Sweden in 2015, I lived and worked in Bologna, Rome and Berlin, and I am especially interested in writing about language, travel, and the experiences of people who live outside their country of birth. That covers everything from adapting to new cultural traditions to dealing with bureaucracy, and of course learning the local language.
I have provided commentary and analysis on Swedish and Italian news for radio and TV programmes including TV4, BBC World Service, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Wales, talkRADIO and Deutsche Welle. You can also find my work at NewsMavens, a feminist news network active between 2017-2019, where I contributed summaries and analysis of the biggest news stories in Sweden.
Alongside journalism, my editing experience includes proof-reading and critiquing novel and non-fiction manuscripts as well as creating educational resources for schools. I speak Swedish, Italian, French and German, and can translate from each of these languages into my native English. My translation of a short story by Swedish crime writer Maj Sjöwall was published in the anthology Ten Year Stretch in May 2018.
