I am an experienced editor and journalist currently working as Europe Editor for The Local, which in 2018 was named Popular Digital Publication of the Year by the Swedish Magazine Publishers Association and in 2019 was shortlisted for the Nya Journalistpriset (New Journalism Award). Beyond the news, I write primarily about language, travel, and the experiences of people who live outside their country of birth.
I have provided commentary and analysis on European news for dozens of radio and TV programmes worldwide, as well as speaking about the business of journalism (primarily constructive journalism, reader revenue, and audience engagement) for industry professionals and journalism students. My writing has been published in the Guardian, the Daily Mirror, Culture Trip, NBC, the Manchester Evening News, Big Issue North, and others.
Alongside journalism, my editing experience includes proof-reading and critiquing novel and non-fiction manuscripts as well as creating language-learning resources for schools. I speak German, Italian, Swedish and conversational French, and my translation of a short story by Swedish crime writer Maj Sjöwall was published in the anthology Ten Year Stretch.
