I am a Stockholm-based journalist covering Swedish news and features in my role as Europe Editor for The Local, which in 2018 was named Popular Digital Publication of the Year by the Swedish Magazine Publishers Association and in 2019 was shortlisted for the Nya Journalistpriset (New Journalism Award). In my role I focus on building and strengthening relationships with readers by putting our community at the centre of our journalism. I write primarily about language, travel, and the experiences of people who live outside their country of birth.
In 2020, I was named one of FIPP's 3 Rising Stars in Journalism, and I am nominated for the Swedish Magazine Publishers Association's first Rising Star of the Year award. This year I am also overseeing The Local's training course in solutions-focused migration reporting.
Alongside journalism, my editing experience includes proof-reading and critiquing novel and non-fiction manuscripts as well as creating educational resources for schools. I speak Swedish, Italian, French and German, and can translate from each of these languages into my native English. My translation of a short story by Swedish crime writer Maj Sjöwall was published in the anthology Ten Year Stretch in May 2018.
I have provided commentary and analysis on Swedish and Italian news for radio and TV programmes including TV4, BBC World Service, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio Wales, talkRADIO and Deutsche Welle, and my writing about European news, culture and travel has been published in the Guardian, the Daily Mirror, Culture Trip, NBC, the Manchester Evening News, Big Issue North, and others.
